Memorial unveiled 72 years after fatal crash of Lt. Rusty Russell in Croatia (Yugoslavia)
Lt. Russell was a pilot in 16 Squadron flying Beaufighter aircraft. In August 1944 his aircraft crashed on the target area during a raid to Yugoslavia.
In 2015 wreckage pieces of the aircraft was found on the crash site near the small town of Zadvarje in Croatia.
The local people and town council decided to erect a memorial for Lt. Russell and his navigator Lt Stanbury. In 2016 contact was made with Lt. Russell's son, Peter Heathcote, and he was invited for the unveiling.
