I visited John in 2011. He still has his 8mm war time film reels which I digitised and displayed here. 

John had his first tour in 1940, East Africa and was in the very first combat engagement in the history of 1 squadron. He had a subsequent tour to North Africa where he was shot down and made POW. John is the last surviving SAAF fighter pilot ace still to be around.
